Baldur's Gate 3 will be released 'hopefully sometime in 2022'
Patch 5 will also change the dice mechanics, camping, and disengage actions.Larian's latest community update on Baldur's Gate 3 is presented alongside the studio’s third Panel from Hell stream. But if you only want the quick version, Patch 5 will go live July 13. It focuses on mechanical changes that are based on feedback from the community and will be available "hopefully somewhere around [20]22."
What's in Patch 5? There's a lot. The interface for dice-rolling will show modifiers that are added to the roll after it is completed (hallelujah!). It then asks you if it is possible to cast spells such as guidance to affect the outcome. Although you can ask your party members to help with your spells, multiplayer mode might not allow that.
Camping has been redesigned. You will now need to buy supplies for long rests, rather than take a nap after each fight. It will pay to stop hoarding cheese. Your campsites will reflect the environment in patch 5. They won't always look like that spot of forest by the beach. There are some cool cutscenes, including one with a cute looking owlbear cub.
Combat changes now include the seperation of jump and disengage, so they are separate actions. Disengage is a full action. Baldur's Gate 3 now aligns with tabletop D&D. This is something players have requested. Also, you can cancel spells that require concentration. There's also a toggle for non lethal attacks to knock your enemies unconscious. Vincke says, "You can still rob them blind," but you don't need to kill them. It's better for your good karma.
Secret miniquests will also be added to each character's backstory to reward them for being their type. An Urchin will get a reward for convincing ogres to work for him, while a Noble character will be rewarded. Or for stealing a ring. You can redeem your inspiration points to reroll d20s. You can accumulate four inspiration points once you have 25 XP.
The addition of NPC barks to various actions is a significant change. Minsc shouted "Go for your eyes, Boo!" As a permanent reminder of my memory, Minsc barks every time I tell him to attack in Baldur's Gate. Baldur's Gate 3 apparently has characters saying different things depending on where they are in the story. Over 800 barks have been recorded to cover the Early Access portion of the game.
You can make minor changes to spells and enemy AI. Shadowheart, the cleric, is now available for you to recruit. Shadowheart was imprisoned in the tutorial. This is a nice change. The bug that made buckets unpalatable has also been fixed.
Patch 6 will have more "new content", and Larian has already begun work on it. Vincke says it will be available "faster than you might think".
